Contributor Biography
Mr. Monahan is the Executive Director of the Mosaic Institute. Located in Toronto, the Mosaic Institute is a not-for-profit, action-oriented think tank that harnesses the connections, knowledge, and resources of Canada’s ethnocultural communities to advance Canadian solutions and promote peace and development in conflict-ridden or under-developed parts of the world.
Prior to joining Mosaic as its first Executive Director, he was the Director of International Representation and Research for the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, where he oversaw Ontario’s global network of trade, investment and representation offices, and was responsible for the gathering and analysis of economic intelligence regarding Ontario’s international business interests. He had previously served as Ontario’s Senior Economic Officer and Consul for Economic Affairs at the Canadian Consulate-General in New York. Before that, he practiced employment, human rights, and immigration law with the firm of Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP, and had served as an Immigration Policy Advisor to the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
He holds a BA in International Relations from the University of Toronto, an MPA from Dalhousie University, and a JD degree from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law. He also completed programs of study at the Université de Strasbourg, and at the Université Panthéon-Assas in Paris. He has been active in numerous community organizations, and currently sits on the Boards of Directors of the Project People Foundation, based in New York City, and the Toronto Dance Theatre.
