Dr. Lightman is Professor of Humanities and Director of the Graduate Program in Science and Technology Studies at York University in Toronto. His research focuses on modern science in cultural context, especially nineteenth century British science. His publications include The Origins of Agnosticism and Victorian Popularizers of Science. In his copious spare time he edits the journal Isis, the flagship periodical of the History of Science Society.
