Study: Antibiotics do Nothing for Sinus Infections

Sick of sneezing, headaches and fatigue? Too bad.
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that contrary to standard medical practice, sinus infections cannot usually be cured by antibiotics. After studying 166 patients with symptoms of sinusitis, researchers found Amoxicillin no better than placebos. Though after a week, a slight improvement in symptoms was found amongst those on antibiotics, researchers said the difference was so slight it was unnoticeable to patients. The team also said that after 10 days, there was no difference between the group on antibiotics and the control group. Instead of prescribing antibiotics, the team suggested the most old-fashioned cure of all: time.
