Now, even more ways to watch inflammatory local newscasts and 'Mike and Molly'.
A New York-based start-up called Aereo will allow subscribers to stream local television networks on computers, mobile phones, and tablets. While Aereo will only be available in the Empire State, it could provide a model for other broadcast companies chasing an audience that tunes in more to their monitors than television screens. Aereo will broadcast CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX, plus other networks that use over-the-air signals to reach televisions. To do so, they have set up thousands of antennae at their New York headquarters which pick up the over-the-air signals. Those signals are then streamed online to subscribers, who will be able to watch the streams from any internet-accessible device. While subscribers won't get access to cable programming, for $12 a month, they will be able to stream live broadcasts of local news, sports, and all the quality primetime programming you've come to expect from the networks. Yes, that means Two and a Half Men.
