Washington State Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage

In doing so, it becomes the first state west of Iowa to allow anyone who loves someone to get married.
Washington's governor signed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage on Monday, making it the seventh state in the union to do so. Gov. Christine Gregoire's seal of approval for the bill means that same-sex couples will be able to marry 90 days after the current legislative session ends, meaning the first marriage licences could go out around June – just in time for beautiful summertime weddings beneath the rainy, overcast skies of the Pacific Northwest. Anyhow, a bunch of people who aren't happy with the law (these are called "homophobes") have also announced a campaign that could make repealing the law a ballot issue during elections in November, but even if that does come to fruition, Washington can expect a gay ol' time this summer. Party on, ladies and gents. Washington joins Iowa, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire in legalizing same-sex marriage. Washington D.C. allows it as well.
