Taking a Look at Obama's Spotify Playlist

TWO Darius Rucker songs?!?!

U.S. President Barack Obama's musical forays during his presidency have always garnered a bit of water-cooler talk, from his curious appropriation of The National's "Fake Empire" in 2008 to singing a bit of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" before a speech last month. This week, the prez released his "Mix-tape for America" on the social-networking music program Spotify. It's another example of his staff's sterling command of social media, and nicely panders to a broad slice of Democratic (The Boss, Wilco) and independent (umm, Sugarland and Dierks Bentley) voters. The real fun, though is picking which songs were put on the list by Obama himself (hint: think boomer-friendly), and which ones were chosen by his staff. We've bolded the ones we think were Barry's, although we're confounded over who would put two Darius Rucker songs on the list. Maybe Biden's a big Hootie and the Blowfish fan.

The List:

Raphael Saadiq, “Keep Marchin’”

Noah And The Whale, “Tonight’s The Kind Of Night”

Bruce Springsteen, “We Take Care Of Our Own”

Zac Brown Band, “Keep Me In Mind”

Aretha Franklin, “The Weight”

U2, “Even Better Than The Real Thing”

Booker T & The MG’s, “Green Onions”

Wilco, “I Got You”

The Impressions, “Keep On Pushing”

Dreamgirls Soundtrack: Jennifer Hudson, “Love You I Do”

AgesandAges, “No Nostalgia”

Sugarland, “Stand Up”

Al Green, “Let’s Stay Together”

Darius Rucker, “This”

Arcade Fire, “We Used To Wait”
