Brits Barred from U.S. over Joke Tweets

The Department of Humourless Security strikes again.

Travellers headed to the United States had better keep a close eye on not only what they pack, but also what they tweet. Two young travellers from the U.K., Emily Bunt and Leigh Van Ryan, found that out the hard way last week upon arriving at Los Angeles International Airport. Van Ryan, 26, had sent out two tweets before heading to the Land of Opportunity, tweeting to his friends "Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?" and "3 weeks today, we're totally in LA pissing people off on Hollywood Blvd and diggin' Marilyn Monroe up!" a reference to the show Family Guy. When Van Ryan was going through customs at LAX, federal agents descended upon him, searched his luggage for spades and shovels, and interrogated the pair for five hours. They then tossed the pair in the back of a police van and locked them up in separate holding cells for 12 hours with what Van Ryan claimed were Mexican drug dealers. The two were eventually sent back to Paris, and never got to see Hollywood. The travelling Brits are understandably a bit peeved about the situation, but ask yourself this: do we really need another Family Guy-quoting, 26-year-old bar manager hanging around this continent?
