The country's intelligence officials are reporting this morning that the United States may have killed the leader of Pakistan's Taliban.

New rumours have emerged that the United States killed the leader of Pakistan’s Taliban last week. Pakistani intelligence officials report that chief Hakimullah Mehsud may have been killed on Thursday in a drone strike in the North Waziristan area. Officials say they intercepted the Taliban's militant radio communications and heard several members discussing the (possible) death of their leader. Taliban officials have since denied the report, claiming Mehsud was not in the area at the time of the strike. In 2010, similar reports emerged from both American and Pakistani officials regarding Mehsud’s death before he appeared in a new video to disprove their theories. Pakistan’s Taliban has killed thousands of Pakistani troops and civilians as well as several American citizens.
