Ontario Lottery Gambling on Toronto Casino

Casino could rival Raptors games for getting the most fun out of a guaranteed loss.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has floated the idea of building a casino in downtown Toronto to help get the province's finances back in order. While there are a number of casinos spread around the province, such as in Niagara Falls, Windsor, Brantford, Port Perry, and Thunder Bay, there isn't one in the country's most populous and most-visited city. And with OLG generating more than a billion a year for provincial coffers, the Crown corporation figures that a gambling den in the heart of Toronto – city officials have suggested the CNE grounds or Ontario Place – could very well be lucrative indeed. Of course, there are the manifold social ills that can arise from a casino (gambling addiction, crime, and one could argue that the garish interior decor of most casinos is an affront to the senses), but Toronto's double-headed mayor, RobAndDoug Ford, has said he's behind the project so long as the public is. OLG is expected to release a more detailed report on their plans in March.
