They're mostly male, and they've already earned almost $44,366 this year.
By noon today, Canada’s top 100 chief executives of publicly traded companies will have earned the average Canadian’s annual salary. According to a report conducted by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the top CEOs will have earned an average of $44,366 halfway through the year’s first official work day, up 27 per cent from the previous year. In 2010, they earned an average of $8.4 million, roughly 189 times the national average. Only one woman made the list, as Nancy Southern of ATCO Ltd. placed 85th with annual earnings of $4.8 million. Canada’s highest-paid CEO was Frank Stronach, chairman of Magna International, who made over $60 million in 2010. According to the report, Canada’s income inequality has grown since the late 1980s.
