From flu shots to teeth whitening, the uninsured and under-insured are turning to web coupons for medical procedures.
Daily deal sites: useful for fancy lunches, hotels, cooking classes… and health care. The Associated Press reports that uninsured people across the world are using daily deals sites like Groupon and LivingSocial to purchase things like X-rays, dental cleanings, and medical check-ups. According to DealRadar.com, roughly nine per cent of the deals are for health care products, roughly double the proportion of deals from 2010. An estimated 46 million Americans under 65 do not have health coverage, and even insured people now use the sites to buy uncovered elective procedures like laser eye surgery and botox. What could be a better impulse buy than a comprehensive stool and urine analysis package?
