On al-Arabiya television, an announcement suggests Assad has agreed to the Arab League's deal.
Qatar’s foreign minister has reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is going to sign an Arab peace plan despite repeated attempts to stall the deal. The plan is designed to stop Assad’s crackdown on dissent and would require the Syrian leader to stop the killings, release prisoners, engage with opposition figures, allow Arab monitors on the ground and withdraw troops from cities. Just yesterday, Qatar had announced that the Arab League would likely take its plan to the U.N. Security Council after a vote on Wednesday. The League has already suspended Syria’s membership and taken economic sanctions after an estimated 5,000 people have been killed in the crackdown.
