Each of the nine candidates will have time for opening (and possibly also closing) remarks in the first of six debates.

The race is on. Nine candidates vying for leadership of the New Democratic Party will face off in a two-hour debate this afternoon. The live, televised event will include both English and French portions, with all but one candidate ready to attempt un débat en Francais. Dewar, Nash, Ashton, Topp, Mulcair, Chisolm, Saganash, Cullen and Singh will each have roughly ten minutes to clarify their positions on the economy, each other, Harper’s leadership, and the future of Canada. Of course, should anything go horribly wrong for a candidate, they’ll still have a good three months to recover before the official leadership vote on March 24th.
