Ticketmaster to Refund All $1.50 Processing Fees

Class-action lawsuit scores victory over ticketing overlords.

Ticketmaster, just about the most universally hated corporation on the face of the planet, will give a refund to anybody who bought tickets on their website during the past 12 years. Don't get too excited, though – the most you can get is $1.50 per ticket order, up to a maximum of 17 orders. The refund follows a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. that alleged that the ticket-selling company charged processing fees without ever making that explicitly clear. A court ruled against Ticketmaster, and now anybody who bought tickets from Oct. 21, 1999 to Oct. 19 of this year can file for refunds. The first refunds are set to go out in April of next year. The company has set aside $11.2 million to cover the refunds, but if the amount claimed is less than that, the difference will go to charity. It's almost the first respectable thing Ticketmaster has done in its existence.
