Almost All Canadians Feel Safe from Crime

Poll of the Day: Yeah, but how do they feel about unreported crime? Eh?

The always informative folk at Statistics Canada tell us today that a whopping 93 per cent of Canadians feel safe from crime, despite that very subject being the current obsession for the Conservative government. A survey of people over the age of 15 found that 90 per cent of respondents felt safe walking home at night, and 83 per cent were not at all scared to be home alone in the evening. These revelations follow the news that crime rates in this country are just about the lowest they've ever been. Heck, Windsor just had its first murder in more than two years! It's almost as if vast swaths of the Canadian public have a wholly realistic and sober view of the threat of crime and personal injury that faces them. Silly Canadians! Don't they know that pedophiles and pot-growing biker gangs lurk around every corner just waiting to turn your daughters into "mamas" and sons into drug mules?
