Breivik Declared Insane

The man who's claimed responsibility for Norway's worst attack since the Second World War might not be prison bound.

Psychiatrists have determined that Anders Behring Breivik, the man who confessed to murdering 77 Norwegians this summer, suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. The two psychiatrists responsible for figuring out whether he's mentally capable of standing trial say the 32-year-old was in a "delusional universe" when he carried out the terror attacks this summer, in which he set off a bomb in downtown Oslo before shooting dead 69 people, mostly youth, at a political youth camp. Breivik is slated to be tried over 10 weeks starting in April, although the psychiatrists' diagnosis means it's unlikely Breivik will serve his sentence in a jail cell. Lawyers for his victims say they don't mind where he's locked away so long as it's for good.
