Men Don't Think About Sex Every Seven Seconds

But they still think about it more than food or sleep. (And so do women.)

One of the most bandied-about statistics of the last few decades has been that men think about sex, on average, once every seven seconds. New research finds that yes, men do spend great swaths of the day thinking about the opposite (or same, or both) sex, just not for one-seventh of their waking life. The Ohio State University study surveyed 283 male and female college students and asked them to tally what kind of thoughts they had over the course of a week. The researchers found that young men think about sex about 19 times a day, while young women thought about the ol' sideways shuffle 10 times a day. But men were also found to have thought about food and sleep far more often than their female counterparts, with men thinking about eating almost 18 times a day and sleep 11 times. Women thought about food 15 times and sleep 8.5 times. (See? The way to a man's heart really is through his stomach). The authors suggest that this discrepancy could mean that men are more wired in to their biological needs then women. Or, on the flipside, that women spend their time being concerned about more lofty concepts than Doritos or how awesome sleeping in is. Either way, we're just glad we can stop thinking about sex 8,000 times a day. It was really starting to interfere with our sex li work.
