Campaign Warns 'It Could Get Worse' if Crime Bill Passes

New group yet another source of excellent information the federal government will surely ignore in crafting justice policy.

A group of earnest young folk calling themselves the Omnibusters have launched an online campaign aimed at getting Canadians opposed to omnibus crime bill to let their MP know that they think it's a bunch of exorbitantly expensive, overly vindictive hogwash. (What a coincidence! So do we.) The "It Could Get Worse" campaign, a spin on sex-advice columnist Dan Savage's "It Gets Better" campaign to end the bullying of gay teens, features youngish people (we're avoiding the term "hipster" knowing full well that another outlet will almost certainly use it) explaining just why Bill C-10, hilariously named the Safe Streets and Communities Act, is so misguided. (A quick recap: mandatory minimum sentences don't work, it will cost millions upon millions more to hundreds of new non-violent offenders, crime rates are already at record lows, etc., etc.) All told, 11 videos have been made so far, although only four of them have yet to be released, some of which, including a quickie with NDP MP Laurin Liu, have been embedded below.
