Female postal workers have won a pay equity battle originally filed in 1983.
Some battles are worth 28 years of fighting. Female postal workers have finally won a pay equity case at the Supreme Court after originally making their claim in 1983. The roughly 2,000 women represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada said they were being discriminated against because they made less money than men in similar Canada Post positions. After the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal ruled in their favour, the Federal Court of Appeal overturned that decision. Now, the Supreme Court has reinstated the tribunal’s original order after an incredibly brief deliberation. The group may claim $150 million in damages before interest.
