Two-Thirds Want CBC Funding Maintained or Increased

Poll of the Day: The Tory position on CBC from May 2011 is a lot more popular than the Tory position from November 2011.
A new poll finds that more than two-thirds of Canadians would like to see funding for CBC be maintained or even increased. The flip side to that, of course, is that 22 per cent of respondents to the Harris-Decima survey said they'd rather see the public broadcaster's funding be cut, while 12 per cent would rather it disappear altogether (these people are called Sun readers). Those 22 per cent ought to be tickled pink, then, by the Conservative government's order that the broadcaster find $110 million in savings, despite promising during the election to "maintain or increase" funding for the Ceeb. We suppose the 69 per cent of respondents who don't want to see any reductions at the broadcaster must be smarting a little bit over that reversal, but c'est la vie. According to CP's Jennifer Ditchburn:
The survey found that Canadians who wanted the funding decreased or cut completely were more likely to be Conservative supporters, men, those over the age of 50 and respondents living in Alberta.
Those who were for increased funding were most likely to be from Atlantic Canada, New Democrats, and those with household incomes exceeding $100,000 annually.
Talk about your early-millennium stereotypes, eh?
