Poll of the day: Toronto stinks, Ottawa rules. Wait wait wait... Ottawa? Really?

A new poll on Canadians' attitudes toward the country's major cities finds that the long-held assumption that the rest of the country hates Toronto is at least somewhat true. The Leger Marketing poll results show that 19 per cent of respondents held a negative or somewhat negative opinion of Toronto, the country's economic, cultural, culinary, and immigration hub. That was a higher percentage than for any other city in Canada, with most of the Toronto hatred coming from out west. Three out of 10 respondents in Alberta said they had negative feelings toward the Ontario capital (crapital?), while 27 per cent of Manitobans and Saskatchewanians and 23 per cent of British Columbians felt that way. Somehow, Ottawa was found to be the most liked city in the country, with 82 per cent of respondents answering favourably to the national capital. Perhaps opinions in Western Canada have become a little more positive about the city since 2006, but still... Vancouver, Victoria, and Calgary all came in closely behind Ottawa.
