Citing safety concerns, the mayor says the tents may need to be removed.
The Occupy Vancouver site may soon be shut down after a 20-year-old woman died on the site this weekend. She was found in a tent near the Vancouver Art Gallery yesterday afternoon, and nearby observers have suggested her death was the result of an overdose. Mayor Gregor Robertson has since said the chief of police and fire departments are looking to shut the camp down out of concern for the safety of locals. Last week, tents and tarps were moved by the city’s fire department for similar reasons. Robertson was met with heckles as Occupy protestors asserted their right to camp in a public area.
