Across the country, rallies against potential reductions in post-military benefits.
Former Canadian military officials and soldiers want Ottawa to know they will not tolerate future cuts to veteran benefits. On Saturday, 50 former soldiers gathered at Parliament Hill alongside supporters and sites in Halifax, Calgary and London to rally for the protection of their post-army benefits. Their concerns have come after the announcement of a $200 million cut to the Veterans Affairs Department, and an additional five-to-10-per-cent funding cut expected in the next five years. Five hundred jobs in the department will also disappear. Government officials have said veterans will not be affected by the cuts.
