A lesbian couple is spearheading a protest of their local coffee chain after the management told them to leave for sharing a kiss.
Residents of a small southern Ontario town are planning to protest their local Tim Hortons after the franchise told a lesbian couple to leave their property over what the chain claims was an inappropriate display of affection. The two ladies in question, Riley Duckworth, 25, and Patricia Pattenden, 23, were sitting outside the Blenheim, Ont., Tims with their coffees in hand a few weeks ago. Apparently a customer complained that the two were getting too intimate, and a manager came out to tell the two young women to politely take their behaviour elsewhere, claiming the restaurant is a family-friendly establishment. But both Duckworth and Pattenden say they did little more than hold hands and share a kiss or two on the cheeks, leading them and others in the community to wonder if they were shooed off of the property because of their sexual orientation. Tim Hortons has since denied that they would ever discriminate based on sexual orientation, but regardless, local LGBT groups are planning a protest outside the Tim Hortons for this Thursday.
