In Benghazi, a touching ceremony unfolds as the country celebrates its long-awaited liberation.
After eight months of armed resistance and 42 years of brutal dictatorship, Libya has officially declared itself liberated. At a ceremony this morning in Benghazi, an official from the National Transitional Council announced to the world that Libya was free and that Gadhafi, killed just three days earlier, met the humiliating end that God wanted for anyone practicing terrible injustices against their people. After a reading from the Quran, crowds waved the tri-colour flag as officials paid tribute to those who died in the struggle to set the North African nation on the path towards democracy. This is the second major announcement from Libya today, after the country’s chief forensic pathologist announced that Gadhafi was killed by a shot to the head. His body has been returned to the meat freezer for public viewing as the international community decides what to do about the circumstances surrounding his death.
