Okay, Saudi Allegiance Council: time to prove your worth.

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia may someday be missing a king. Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz al-Saud died today after what is believed to have been a long battle with cancer. He was 80ish (exact dates of birth were not recorded in the kingdom). The late prince and half-brother of King Abdullah was defense minister for decades and played a leading role in the first Gulf War. After his death in a New York hospital, Prince Sultan's body is being flown back to Saudi Arabia. The next successor to King Abdullah may be appointed by the Saudi Allegiance Council, a group of royal family members created in 2007. Rumours have it that Prince Nayef, the country’s second deputy minister, may become the next crown prince.
