Rights council says even the most hated people in the world don't deserve to be summarily executed.
As you may remember, a certain bouffanted ex-dictator of Libya was killed yesterday. But seeing as how no clear understanding of how Moammar Gadhafi died has yet emerged, the United Nations Human Rights Council is calling for an investigation to determine if he died due to injuries sustained in battle or if he might have been summarily executed by Libyan fighters. International bodies, such as the International Criminal Court and the UNHRC, had pushed for Gadhafi to be captured alive so that he could be tried for his atrocities. Clearly, that won't be happening any more – hence the UNHRC's plea for the rule of law to apply even to those who might have killed one of the world's least-liked individuals. Reports suggest that Gadhafi had been trying to flee his hometown of Sirte in an armed convoy when French airstrikes forced the convoy to stop. Gadhafi is then believed to have run out of the convoy, later to be found brandishing a golden hand gun in a drain pipe. Shortly after that, video clips suggest he was paraded about by Libyan forces before dying. Doctors say the cause of death was a bullet to the abdomen. Gadhafi's remains are being held in a freezer in Misrata until the new Libyan government decides what to do with the old.
