How much does it cost to return a captive soldier? About 1,000 prisoners.
The Israel Prison Service has released the names of the 477 of the Palestinian prisoners being released in exchange for the young captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. 280 of those prisoners were serving life sentences, including over 100 “hardcore militants” and several kidnappers, suicide bombers, and military planners. 239 prisoners will return to their homes in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and east Jerusalem, and 204 will be deported overseas. Victims' families will have 48 hours to file complaints about the releases. Oh, and that’s just the first stage of the swaps. Stage two will include the release of 550 more prisoners. If the deal is secured, Shalit, who has been held captive by Hamas since 2006, will be reunited with his family at an air base in central Israel on Tuesday.
