Kathy Dunderdale becomes the first ever female premier elected in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Yukon and Newfoundland and Labrador both upheld the trend this fall of the provinces re-electing parties that were already in power, with both the Yukon Party and Progressive Conservatives landing their third-straight majorities. Kathy Dunderdale, who has led the PCs since former premier Danny Williams retired last year, led her party to another massive majority, taking 37 of the province's 48 seats. The Liberals picked up two more seats to give them six while the NDP surged from just one seat to five. Up in Yukon, Darrell Pasloski led the right-leaning Yukon Party to 11 of the territory's 18 seats, while the NDP became the Official Opposition after gaining three more seats to give it six. The Liberals fell from five to two seats. Four provincial and two territorial elections have now been completed in the past two weeks, with Saskatchewan set to vote in November.
