Ladies and gentlemen, the one per cent of the one per cent.
The Thomson family remains by far the wealthiest in all of Canada, topping a list of the country's 100 richest people with a whopping $21.3 billion, according to Canadian Business magazine. That's actually down by about eight per cent from last year (poor Thomsons!) but the family behind Thomson Reuters and Woodbridge still has nearly three times the amount that No. 2, grocery magnate Galen Weston, can claim, as he's worth just a piddling $8 billion. The Irvings of New Brunswick are just behind Weston with $7.8 billion, while the Rogers family ($5.9 billion) and Jim Pattison ($5.73 billion), who owns a little bit of everything, round out the top five. Other notables on the list include director James Cameron, who made the list for the first time at No. 94 with $650 million, and Lululemon founder Chip Wilson, who climbed from 48th to 15th this year with $2.85 billion.
