Rob Ford Mum on Ontario Election Endorsements

With less than a week to go before election day, the Toronto mayor keeps his thoughts on the campaign to himself.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has made the most sensible decision of his tenure in deciding not to endorse any of the political parties ahead of next week's Ontario provincial election – so far. Ford, who endorsed Stephen Harper for prime minister during the federal election, has kept pretty quiet about the provincial campaigns after facing a summer of insurrection from city council and the public over plans to cut services across the country's largest city. While Ford held an informal barbeque in the summer at which Harper called for a "conservative hat trick" in Ontario, the mayor has yet to explicitly come out in favour of PC Leader Tim Hudak, Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty, or NDP Leader Andrea Horwath. Our speculation is that given the tight race so far, Ford wouldn't want to create a rift with any of the leaders should a minority government result, or should he throw his weight behind a losing candidate. Recent seat projections suggest that the Liberals might be headed to a third consecutive majority government, although just barely.
