Thirty-four years later, the director finally says 'sorry.'
It only took him three decades, but director Roman Polanski has finally realized that drugging and raping 13-year-old girls isn't cool, and for the first time in his life publicly apologized for doing just that. The director, who fled from the U.S. to Europe after pleading guilty of having sex with a minor in 1978, apologizes to his victim, Samantha Geimer, in a new documentary about his life that's just been released. Geimer, now 47, had been seduced by the Chinatown director with champagne and drugs before he sexually assaulted her. Geimer has said that the ensuing trial and media frenzy over the case scarred her more than the actual incident itself, while Polanski went on to direct more films, make millions of dollars, and receive the praise of countless fans in Europe who were more than keen to overlook the fact that he drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl.
