Sly Stone Living on Streets of L.A.

Broke after living for years in obscurity, the soul legend ekes out his life in a rented trailer in one of L.A.'s toughest neighbourhoods.

Sly Stone, one of the greatest voices in soul music, is living in a camper on the streets of Los Angeles. The New York Post reports that Stone, who helmed Sly and the Family Stone in the 1960s and 1970s, has lost all of his money and his two California estates and is now essentially homeless. Stone, 68, says he's fine living in the camper in one of L.A.'s roughest neighbourhoods, where a retired couple feeds him and lets him use their shower. Stone will be the subject of a forthcoming documentary on his fall from fame. Sly and the Family Stone released a string of seminal soul-rock albums that featured era-defining songs such as Dance to the Music, Family Affair, Everyday People, I Want to Take You Higher, and a bunch of other tracks that belong in any record collection. Lord knows the guy could use the record-sale royalties.
