In dog years, though, that's like 566 years.
We can expect to live until we're just shy of our 81st birthdays, as Statistics Canada says the average life expectancy at birth in the country is now a ripe old 80.9 years old. This means a kid born today stands to live until 2091, which really just blew our minds, now that we think about it. In addition, women can expect to make it to 83.1 years old, while men are likely to check out at 78.5, all of which are slight increases from when the measure was last taken. B.C. (81.4), Ontario (81.3), and Quebec (81.0), boast the highest life expectancies while the three territories have the lowest. Other demographic markers of note: the infant mortality rate remained at 5.1 deaths per 1,000 births and 238,617 people died in 2008 (up 1.4 per cent from the year before).
