Activists and police prepare for a massive sit-in in near Parliament Hill.

Supporters of Greenpeace and other environmental groups are expected to take part in an enormous rally and sit-in today in Ottawa to protest the Keystone XL pipeline. Police are setting up barriers to prevent activists from approaching Parliament buildings and the House of Commons. The Canadian government has already expressed approval for the $7 billion pipeline project, which would stretch 2,700 kilometres and run from Alberta to Texas. In Washington, over 1,000 people were arrested after two weeks of related protests at the White House. The U.S. is expected to make its decision about the pipeline by the end of the year.
