The company with the motto “Don’t Be Evil” has a sense of humour.
It’s official: Google has gone bi-partisan, hopping back and forth between parties faster than Nycole Turmel. The long-time Democrat fountain has recently been caught in bed with right-wing, Republican-allied groups, including the Heritage Foundation (best known for its role in the West Wing’s Bartlet administration), the American Enterprise Institute, the Republican Governors Assocation, the Republic State Leadership Committee, and several others, in a head-to-head battle with Microsoft. The search engine also hired 18 lobbying firms in the last few months, as it faces an antitrust threat and a hearing in the Senate. Analysts say Google’s goal is to gain influence on issues surrounding antitrust, intellectual property, trade, and China. Guess if you want a monopoly on the world’s knowledge, you have to sip from both ends of the straw.
