The London-based market is in trouble for firing a transgendered employee.
A farmer’s market in London, Ontario may be in trouble with the Ontario Human Rights Commission after a vendor was forced to remove a transgendered employee. Market managers from the Trails End Farmer’s Market asked “True 2 You,” a candle, incense and oil company, to remove the employee out of concern for a “family friendly atmosphere.” The booth owner was told not to return with transgendered employees in future. The vendor hired council and intends to file a human rights complaint, noting that over 1000 people have signed a petition to boycott the market. Market owner Ed Kikkert insisted that this was not a case of discrimination, but a genuine concern about which washroom the employee would use.
