Human Rights Watch wants the Canadian government to charge the former vice president for authorizing the torture of detainees.
Human Rights Watch, a New York based activist group, has asked Ottawa to charge Dick Cheney for torture during his years in the Bush administration. The group says Canada must investigate him and comply with the Convention Against Torture since at least two cases of torture (Maher Arar and Omar Khadr) involved Canadian citizens. Cheney will be in Vancouver this week to promote his new memoir about the the Bush administration, in which he is expected to defend the use of waterboarding and other “enhanced interrogation techniques.” Vancouver New Democrat MP Don Davies has asked Jason Kenney to deny Cheney entry into Canada. Quail and humans have also been removed from the area in case Cheney decides to go hunting.
