Toronto Parking Authority considering something that might make life easier for Torontonians, council members weary.
After successful initiatives in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver, cellphone pay for parking may be coming to Toronto. Councillor Karen Stintz announced this week that Toronto City Council is seriously considering an initiative that would allow people to pay for parking or replenish their meters from the comfort of their own pockets. Drivers would pre-register, phone the number on the meter, and even buy more time by redialing the number. If a police officer wanted to issue a parking ticket (imagine!), he or she could simply tap into a database of users and see who has exceeded their limited. The Toronto Parking Authority has reportedly been investigating the option for a year to see if it’s financially feasible.
