Charities aren't allowed to endorse political candidates, but David Suzuki did just that in a video on the Ontario Liberals website.
An organization opposed to wind farms in Ontario says environmental activist David Suzuki broke elections laws by appearing in a video with Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty in which Suzuki says he thinks the Liberals are best suited to steward the environment. Wind Concerns Ontario says that because the David Suzuki Foundation is a registered charity, it can not make partisan political endorsements, which are forbidden by the Canada Revenue Agency. The David Suzuki Foundation says that Suzuki had stepped down from the board over the summer so he is not explicitly linked to the organization (except for the, y'know, name and ethos of it). The Liberals had featured the video, in which Suzuki and McGuinty wander through Vancouver's Stanley Park, on their website until this weekend, when it was taken down. The foundation denies breaking any rules, while the Wind Concerns Ontario is calling for CRA to revoke the foundation's charitable status.
