Air Canada Strike

Air Canada Flight Attendants Headed for Strike

But never fear, air travellers! The Conservative government says it will continue its war against labour by ordering them back to work.

It looks like Air Canada will soon have its second strike of the year on its hands, as talks between the country's largest airline and the union representing its flight attendants broke down yesterday. The two sides have until Wednesday to hash out a deal, but with the flight attendants' union, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, blaming the airline's team for using an expletive (our uneducated guess is that it starts with "horse" and ends in "-hit") to describe the effort put in by the mediator and the union, we're betting against the two sides coming to an agreement. Should the strike occur, Air Canada will likely face severe disruptions throughout Canada and the world, although the federal government has indicated it is more than willing to trample upon workers' rights yet again by introducing back-to-work legislation. Labour Minister Lisa Raitt made a similar such move to bust up the Canada Post lockout/strike back in June, and threatened to do so for striking Air Canada ticketing representatives until their union caved.
