Chevron Oil Leak Reported in Gulf of Mexico

At this point, we totally understand if Louisiana secedes from the rest of the U.S.
Oil giant Chevron has confirmed that one of its pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico is, yep, leaking oil. The pipeline, about 70 kilometres east of the city of Venice, Louisiana, connects two oil platforms that extract oil, natural gas, and sulfur in the Main Pass Area of the Gulf. Those two platforms produce about 15,000 barrels of crude oil a day. Operations have tentatively been shut down but Chevron says it will continue production by the end of today, even if we're not sure if the leak has been fixed or even pinpointed. Regardless, the Chevron spill brings to mind the BP oil spill in the Gulf last year, the largest in U.S. history. While this spill appears to be much smaller (so far, at least), the last thing the Gulf needs is more crude oil turning it into the world's biggest tar pond.
