A decade after the attacks, Canadians try to analyze the fiscal impact of September 11th.
As the world reflects on the American tragedy that occurred 10 years ago today, experts have been trying to calculate the economic impact of September 11th on Canada. According to reports, Canadians have spent billions on the war on terror, with the lion's share lost in trade relations with the United States. New border security policies may have cost Canadians and Americans over $13.6 billion annually as a result of longer wait times. The costs of exporting goods from Quebec to the states has gone up by $50 per truck, and companies have reported higher transport and insurance costs. On top of this, there has been a decrease in American tourism to Canada as a result of the passport requirement to travel across the border. Oh, right, and something about Afghanistan.
