Golden ASTEROID shower. Come on, guys.
If you've ever wondered where Earth got its gold, platinum, and other such bling, British researchers say it all came to the planet some 3.9 billion years ago in a giant “golden shower” of asteroids (whatever you do, do not google “golden shower"). The team from the University of Bristol suggests that about one-half of one per cent of the world's mantle (only about 300 billion billion tonnes) came from asteroids and these deposits make up the world's gold, platinum, nickel, iridium and tungsten supplies. As to where those asteroids come from, it's generally agreed that the precious metals were residue left over from imploded stars. So, just to recount: stars blew up, their remnants formed asteroids, these asteroids lay a beatdown on Earth, rappers turn that debris into grills. Life, man, life.
