Six Cities Submit Bids for 2020 Olympics, But No T.O.

Come on ... Baku? Toronto could SO beat Baku.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford might have killed any notion of Canada's largest city hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics, but six cities from around the globe are still putting themselves forward to host the world's premier athletic event. Tokyo, Rome, Madrid, Istanbul, Doha, Qatar and Baku, Azerbaijan have all submitted bids before today's deadline, meaning that the summer games will definitely not be held in either of the Americas. The lack of a bid from the western hemisphere means we'll all be stuck watching live coverage in the early mornings or afternoons but not, as advertisers across the continent are unhappily realizing today, during those sweet prime time hours. In fact, the Summer Olympics haven't been held in this hemisphere since the 1996 Atlanta games, meaning had Toronto decided to go through with a bid, their chances of ending up with the Olympics would have been decidedly emboldened. But they didn't, so our money is on Tokyo.
