Toronto Officers Denied Promotion over G20 Name Tags Incident

Nine officers won't be getting promoted after the police board gains a little courage.
Hey, remember those 90 Toronto Police officers who took off their name tags during the G20 summit, making it impossible to identify officers who might have engaged in some old-fashioned protester-beating? Well, the police board has denied a recommendation from Chief Bill Blair to promote nine of them, the first time the board has done so. Those 90 officers were docked a day's pay for taking off their name tags, and now the board says that maybe officers who showed a lack of judgment when the world's eyes were watching shouldn't be given higher wages and more power and authority. Apparently there's a rule the prevents officers being punished twice for the same offence, so there's some somewhat legitimate push back from the police about this, but given the lack of prosecution against other officers' misdeeds during that summit, we're going to go ahead and side with the board here.
