Vancouver loses #1 spot on the Economist’s Most Liveable City Index
For the first time in nearly a decade, Vancouver has lost its title as the “Most Liveable City in the World” in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s liveability survey. In this year’s ranking, which evaluates cities based on their stability, health care, culture, environment, education, and infrastructure, Vancouver placed third, after Melbourne and Vienna. Toronto and Calgary placed fourth and fifth, respectively, out of a total of 140 cities on the list. The Economist attributes Vancouver’s downgrade to highway closures, but warns that the June riots may cause more downgrades in next year’s rankings. Meanwhile, Tripoli also suffered a dive in its ranking, presumably also because of transit issues.
