Irene Leaving a Big Mess in Her Trail

If flooding continues Sunday, the entire southern tip of Manhattan, including Wall Street, could lose power.
For the first time in history, the entire New York transit system has shut down and residents have been ordered to evacuate low-lying areas. All airports in New York city are closed and baseball stadiums are empty (which apparently is not the norm in America). As winds of up to 185 km/hour destroy power lines, roughly three million homes and businesses are already in the dark. And early Monday morning, it’s coming to Canada. Quebec and the Maritimes are expecting heavy rain and extreme wind as the “post-tropical storm” version of Irene is set to cross the border. Coastal flooding is possible if the storm hits during high tide. Canada, importing terrible American things since the 18th century.
