The 24-year-old rapper donated his winnings from a new Canadian prize for young artists.
Juno-winning rapper Drake (affectionately known by locals as “the guy in the wheelchair from Degrassi”) is once again donating $10,000 to an inner city music program in Toronto. After winning Canada’s second annual Allan Slaight Award for contribution to the arts, he announced that he would give all his prize money to Dixon Hall Music School in Regent Park. The school offers low-income, downtown families a chance to take music lessons for as low as $3 per session. Drake, who grew up in Toronto’s Forest Hill as Aubrey Graham, also donated $10,000 to the school last year. The school plans to use the money to expand its programming, repair instruments, and complete the construction of a recording lab and “jam space.”
