In the police equivalent of a referee overturning a linesman's penalty call, the battery charge against the Ranger could have been a mistake.
New York Rangers pest Sean Avery won't be going to court to face charges that he shoved a police officer, as all charges against him stemming from an incident at his Hollywood mansion have been dropped. The night of Aug. 5, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to noise complaints over a party Avery was hosting. When they showed up, the forward allegedly called the officers “fat pigs,” threatened them to a fight, and shoved them before getting arrested. TMZ now says that the alleged shoving could have just been the officer tripping over Avery's doorway, so we're going to call two minutes on the LAPD for diving.
